Farmer goes to police station with severed wrist, complaint against policeman

A policeman has been accused of cutting off a farmer’s wrist with a ramda in Sripur, Gazipur. The incident took place in Tantisuta village of Barmi union of the upazila on Tuesday morning. The victim farmer appeared at the police station with the severed wrist.

The accused is named Amrit Biswas (40). He is the son of Ram Dulal Biswas of Tantisuta village and is working as a constable at Nagarpur police station in Tangail. Nagarpur police station confirmed that he went home to commit the incident after skipping work.

The victim farmer is named Hazrat Ali (60). He is also a resident of Tantisuta village.
Rahima Begum, wife of injured farmer Hazrat Ali, said, “Today, Tuesday, at around 8:30 am, the accused tried to forcibly occupy the land by cutting down the saplings of a cultivated tree on the land of the Forest Department near my residence. At that time, my husband stopped them from this illegal act. At that time, the accused beat my husband up indiscriminately. The accused hit him hard with a sharp stick. At that time, when my husband tried to defend himself with his hand, his left hand was severed and fell to the ground. At that time, they ran away. My husband ran to the police station with the severed hand. Then we rescued him and first took him to the Sripur Upazila Health Complex. Later, the doctor sent him to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for better treatment.’

Md. Sohag Mia, a resident of Tantisuta village, said, ‘The accused Amrit is constantly torturing and torturing us by showing the force of the police. Many people in the village are fed up with his torture. We demand strict justice for him.’

Md. Alal Khan, an officer of Sripur Sadar BIT, said, ‘The land over which there is a dispute. It is the land of the forest department. Their dispute over forest land is very sad.’

Abdul Quddus, Inspector (Investigation) of Nagarpur Police Station in Tangail, told Ajker Patrika, ‘Constable Amrit Biswas was sent to the range office on urgent postal duty yesterday. He did not take any leave, but he did not inform us about how he went home. We have already been informed about the matter.’

Sripur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Shamim Akhtar said, this morning the isolated farmer came to the police station. Immediately after this, the police rushed to the spot. The accused fled immediately after the incident. Further legal action will be taken based on the written complaint of the victims.
